Hello!
H.E. Bauman is a fantasy author obsessed with all things magical. She’s the author of the Under Darkened Skies series and has a space fantasy series in the works. She’s been writing since she was a child, and some of her earliest stories were about witches, cats, and talking gryphons.
When she’s not writing, you can find her playing tennis, immersed in a video game, or spending time with her family.

It’s a total cliche, but the idea originally stemmed from a dream I had back in 2018. Fun fact: in the original draft, Astrea had pink hair that she styled into space buns.
I grew up reading all kinds of fantasy books, especially where young women were powerful and had fighting experience. But as a big MMORPG player who almost always plays healer for her team (and loves it, let’s be honest), I wondered what it would be like to have a main character who had healing magic and no battle prowess. It’s been both fun and challenging to figure out what that looks like in the Under Darkened Skies world.
I had several drafts where I wrote the book from Astrea, Varojin, Eliana, and Cressida’s perspectives, but this was really Astrea’s story. If you want to see alternate POV scenes, check out the Extras page and bonus content!
I also have some ideas and outlines done for side stories featuring Cressida, Eliana, Adi, and Nicos. Stay tuned!

I’ve always got ideas and projects to work on. Besides working on the Under Darkened Skies series, I have two series I really want to write. One is a space fantasy about a mercenary. The other is a fantasy duology with a magicless main character. Stay tuned!
